Representative Ken King Named Chair of House Committee

Austin – Wednesday, February 8, Speaker Dade Phelan released committee assignments for the 88th Legislature. Representative Ken King was named Chair of the House Committee on Licensing and Administrative Procedure (LAP), and  was appointed to serve his sixth term on the House Committee on Public Education.

“I am honored to have been named Chair of the LAP Committee and am happy to continue working on education policy,” said King. “I thank Speaker Phelan for his confidence in me to contribute to these important committees, and I look forward to getting to work on behalf of House District 88 and the Great State of Texas.”

The House Committee on Licensing and Administrative Procedure has jurisdiction over a variety of topics including licensure of regulated industries such as alcohol, greyhound racing and plumbing. The Public Education Committee will deal with the public school system, elementary and secondary education programs and have jurisdiction over the State Board of Education and the Texas Education Agency.

“Every session presents its own set of challenges and this session will be no different.  I am excited to work with the different industries that the LAP committee will touch and I will continue to fight for the 5-1/2 million school children in the State of Texas,” King stated.”

Ken King was elected to serve the citizens of District 88, which contains counties in both the South Plains, Panhandle and Permian Basin sections of Texas, in November of 2012.
